The Woodlan Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Adams Central Flying Jets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodlan is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Woodlan lost 9-1 to Lakeland on Saturday. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly eight runs.
Woodlan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Halsey, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Alex Piedra also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Adams Central let Monroe Central stack seven runs on them in the third inning on Saturday but luckily Adams Central prevailed anyway. The Flying Jets walked away with a 14-11 win over the Golden Bears.
Jami Roach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits. Adams Central is 2-1 when Roach allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Roach was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Reece Hammond and Ethan Funk did most of the damage at the plate: Hammond went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Funk went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Funk is becoming a predictor of Adams Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Hayden Bluhm, who went 3-for-5 with one triple and one run.
Adams Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Woodlan's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Adams Central, their record now sits at 5-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Woodlan has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Adams Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Woodlan couldn't quite get it done against Adams Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 11-7. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
