Lake is 0-10 against Newton since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lake Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Newton Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Lake came up short against McLaurin and fell 56-44. Lake has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Newton posted their biggest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They blew past Clarkdale, posting a 71-29 victory at home. Given Newton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Clarkdale is ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Newton, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6.
Lake came up short against Newton in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 61-52. Can Lake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
