With a playoff game on the line, the Ponca City Wildcats rose to the challenge on Friday. They managed a 27-21 win over Putnam City West. The victory was just what Ponca City needed coming off of a 48-13 defeat in their prior match.
Despite the loss, Putnam City West still got an impressive performance from Dujuan Knight, who rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Knight was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Warrior, who picked up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Ponca City has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Putnam City West, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Ponca City will take on Muskogee at TBD on Friday. Muskogee presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ponca City in Oklahoma (Muskogee is ranked 17th, while Ponca City is ranked 93rd). Putnam City West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
