Soda Springs hasn't had much luck against Malad recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cardinals will be playing at home against the Dragons at 4:00 p.m. Soda Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Soda Springs blew Ririe out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Ririe got their revenge. The Cardinals fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 9-7. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly two runs.
Aiyana Davis put in work no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Davis was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Aspen Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Brynlee Hemmert was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, Malad entered their tilt with Firth on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over the Cougars. That's two games straight that the Dragons have won by exactly 20 runs.
Like Soda Springs, Malad also got a great game from a two-way player: Riglee Peterson. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Peterson has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs while going 4-for-5.
In other batting news, Brylee Oglesbee and Hadlee Summers did most of the damage at the plate: Oglesbee went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Summers went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those five hits gave Summers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Maroney, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Malad kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Malad pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Soda Springs, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Soda Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Malad struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Soda Springs might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Malad in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Cardinals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
