The Louisville Royals will take on the Burroughs Bears in a tournament on Saturday. Louisville's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Burroughs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Louisville took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Taft as Louisville made off with a 9-2 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Royals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Bridget Woelflein made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Woelflein was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Kelsey Vitalis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Lily Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Louisville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Burroughs posted their closest win since April 9, 2024 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Highland 8-6.
The team relied heavily on Chloe Centeno, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Zavala, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Louisville's record is now 2-3. As for Burroughs, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Louisville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Burroughs struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
