Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2024 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Andrew Esposito of
New Canaan is the 2024 MaxPreps Connecticut High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior wide receiver led the Rams to a 12-1 season and third consecutive Class L state championship.
For the season, Esposito caught 57 passes for 1,014 yards and 14
touchdowns. He added 203 yards and six scores on the ground while also contributing defensively with 16 tackles, two
interceptions and two forced fumbles.

In a 35-21 win over Darien in the state title game, Esposito hauled in eight receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown. He added six carries for 68 yards and another score.
Esposito's season-high came in the opener against Maloney (Meriden) when he grabbed nine passes for 271 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-13 win.
Columbia was the first college program to offer Esposito in October but expect others to pursue Esposito after his strong junior campaign.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
