Forest City is 2-8 against Montrose since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Foresters will host the Meteors at 4:00 p.m. Forest City has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Forest City's offense. They lost 12-0 to Elk Lake on Tuesday.
Forest City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Conolgue, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was Conolgue's first of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Montrose made sure to put some runs up on the board against Carbondale Area on Tuesday. The Meteors were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Chargers. The Meteors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.
Christopher McGee made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Montrose is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise. McGee was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lincoln Brander was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Kasey Carey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Montrose was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carbondale Area only posted a batting average of .222.
Montrose is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Forest City, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Forest City has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Montrose struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Forest City might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Montrose in their previous meeting on April 3rd. Will the Foresters have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
