The Calipatria Hornets will be playing at home against the Kearny Komets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Calipatria's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 35-3 loss at the hands of Vincent Memorial. Calipatria was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.
Meanwhile, Kearny was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 34-28 to San Diego. Kearny was down 34-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Kearny saw an underclassman step up: Jaylen Hill rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown. Hill's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaiden Gravely, who picked up 105 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Kearny's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Leading the way was Kris Ramses and his two sacks.
Calipatria's loss was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged eight points per game. Kearny has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.
