Monroe is 0-10 against Piedmont since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. Monroe has given up an average of 18.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monroe is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 17th straight game two weeks ago. They lost 23-1 to Forest Hills.
Monroe saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vania Stevenson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Piedmont entered their tilt with Anson last Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bearcats an 11-0 shutout. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Ashlyn Pressley, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Anson off the board. Pressley has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tara Deese and Aly Mills did most of the damage at the plate: Deese went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Mills went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Mills has posted since back in March. Madison Brown was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Piedmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anson only posted an OBP of .167.
Piedmont's record is now 16-5. As for Monroe, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-17.
Monroe's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Redhawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Piedmont, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Monroe continue to outrun the ball?
Monroe might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Piedmont in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Redhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
