The Western Plains Bobcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were dealt a 64-16 loss at the hands of Wheatland-Grinnell. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Western Plains has scored all season.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaelyn Spangler, who scored four points along with five steals. Madelyn Kraus was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Western Plains struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wheatland-Grinnell racked up 16 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheatland-Grinnell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Natalie Bixenman, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bixenman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Karoline Schroeder, who scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Western Plains dropped their record down to 1-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.5 points per game. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Plains will square off against Cheylin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, they will head out on the road to square off against Oakley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Oakley is ranked 192nd, while Wheatland-Grinnell is ranked 183rd).
