Basketball Recap: Denver South Takes a Loss

Denver South has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 64-63 heartbreaker at the hands of the George Washington Patriots. While the Ravens didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 22-14 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Denver South still got an impressive performance from Dominic Rhoades-Martinez, who went 7 of 12 en route to 18 points along with eight assists and three steals. Rhoades-Martinez is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brody Shepherd, who posted nine points.

Rhoades-Martinez wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Denver South was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as George Washington only racked up 11 assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead George Washington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malachi Headrick, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 14 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Trimm, who went 6 of 13 en route to 14 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Denver South's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for George Washington, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.

Denver South will be playing at home against Vista PEAK Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Denver South's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for George Washington, they will venture away from home to face off against Denver East at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Denver East is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.4 points per game this season.
