While Air Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Pueblo Central Wildcats by a score of 7-3 on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Kadets as they're now sitting on four straight.
Wyatt Kelley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sam Steubing was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Logan Sullivan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Air Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pueblo Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5-1 record this season.
Air Academy will host Cheyenne Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Kadets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red-Tailed Hawks have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Pueblo Central, they will challenge Pueblo Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
