The Eau Gallie Commodores will take on the Merritt Island Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Eau Gallie: 2.3, Merritt Island: 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Eau Gallie fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against IMG Academy Gold on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Ascenders by a score of 6-5.

Chase McBrearty was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alex Jacobs made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kevin Dillon, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Merritt Island ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cocoa Beach, sneaking past 3-2.
The team relied heavily on Jayce Brandes, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-2. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Merritt Island has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Eau Gallie's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eau Gallie has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Merritt Island struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Eau Gallie skirted past Merritt Island 5-3 in their previous matchup on Friday. Does Eau Gallie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Merritt Island turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
