Legacy Christian Academy hasn't had much luck against Laton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lions will take on the Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Lions on Friday. Legacy Christian Academy was the clear victor by a 24-4 margin over Wonderful College Prep Academy. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Legacy Christian Academy as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Faith Ghilarducci was incredible, going 4-for-5 with eight RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Houchin, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Legacy Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Laton had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. Everything went their way against the Crusaders as they made off with a 29-19 win. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly ten runs.
Laton got a massive performance out of Madison Heffley, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Heffley is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Kamryn Avila also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Laton's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 24.6 runs over those games. As for Legacy Christian Academy, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-4.
Laton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Legacy Christian Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .526. It's a different story for Laton, though, as they've only averaged .223. Will they be able to contain Legacy Christian Academy's hitters?
Legacy Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Laton in their previous matchup back in March and fell 22-20. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
