The Kingsway Christian Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Christian Community. The game was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Kingsway Christian was outscored by Christian Community in the second.
When it comes to explaining why Kingsway Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eli Owens. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Owens pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was JT Bischoff, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Christian Community's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Seth Roberts, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Roberts has scored at least 25% of Christian Community's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe McQueen, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.
Kingsway Christian's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-7. As for Christian Community, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Varsity Opponent the next time they take the court. Christian Community will host Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Kingsway Christian will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
