Ironton is 7-1 against South Point since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Fighting Tigers will welcome the Pointers at 5:30 p.m. Ironton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Ironton took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Dawson-Bryant, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Fighting Tigers have posted against the Hornets since April 7, 2022.
Ava Bihl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Khamil Martin was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, South Point had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Musketeers a 5-0 shutout.
Kota Copley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Stidham, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Ironton's victory bumped their record up to 14-6. As for South Point, their win bumped their record up to 16-6.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ironton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like South Point struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ironton skirted past South Point 2-0 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Fighting Tigers repeat their success, or do the Pointers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
