Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Lanier Poets, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a serious blow against Benjamin Russell on Thursday, falling 39-12. While losing is never fun, Lanier can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Benjamin Russell is ranked 32nd).
T.j. Wilson had an outrageously good game for Benjamin Russell as he rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Malcolm Simmons also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Lanier are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.3 points per game. As for Benjamin Russell, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Lanier does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Benjamin Russell will take on Hueytown at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Hueytown will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
