AAA Region 5 recap September 24, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sonoraville, who defeated 372nd ranked Coahulla Creek, 41-16.
The Phoenix moved up to 352 from 399 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAA Region 5. Sonoraville was able to move up by besting the Colts 41-16.
Cameron Burton was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 72 yards on 12 carries as Coahulla Creek fell to Roger Gentry's team. Teammate Darius Miller added to the ground attack by rushing for 21 yards.
Brooks Barden threw for 309 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 14-16 with 1 interception.
Ward was the best receiver in the league this week as Jared Hamlin's team lost to the Phoenix. Ward tallied 5 receptions for 111 yards. Levi Wilson helped Coahulla Creek's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 40 yards.
Barden put up the best numbers in passing as Cartersville defeated North Murray. Barden's favorite target this week was Mark Quattlebaum, who caught 3 passes for 106 yards.
Cartersville's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Hurricanes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Barden has thrown for 853 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while TL Ford has 13 catches for 240 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Hurricanes' Ford goes up against the Colts' Wilson.
One of AAA Region 5's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Cartersville and Coahulla Creek face off next week.
Next week's game between Frank Barden's team and the Colts will feature an aerial matchup as Barden tests his arm against Wilson's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Adairsville takes on Ringgold. The Tigers are in third place, while the Tigers are in second place.
There should be lots of points scored when Coahulla Creek and the Hurricanes face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Colts comes in having scored 73 this season, while Cartersville has scored 138. Coahulla Creek scored 16 points last week as it fell to Sonoraville.
The Hurricanes extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Mountaineers, 55-15. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
