The Leon Lions are taking a road trip to face off against the Altha Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It was a proper cat-fight when Leon faced off against Buchholz on Saturday. The Lions blew past the Bobcats 16-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Trinity Williams was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Cynthia Conte was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Leon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Altha entered their tilt with Sneads on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pirates a 20-0 shutout. The matchup marked the Wildcats' most dominant win of the season.
Tarrin McCrone made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Hope Tanner and Reagan Roberts did most of the damage at the plate: Tanner scored three runs while going 4-for-5, while Roberts scored five runs while going 2-for-4. Those five runs gave Roberts a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carrington Scott, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Leon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Altha, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both Leon and Altha just can't seem to miss. The Lions have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Altha struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Leon came out on top in a nail-biter against Altha in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 14-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
