American Fork hasn't had much luck against Pleasant Grove recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cavemen will welcome the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. American Fork is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
While American Fork's victory against Lone Peak wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cavemen never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cavemen in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.
Not much got past Mazie Walters, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Lone Peak off the board.
On the hitting side, Eleni Llsonbee was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Miah Walters, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Herriman by a score of 6-5.
Maya Parry made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Maile Larsen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Pleasant Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for American Fork, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-9.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. American Fork has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .522. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
