Despite the defeat, Valparaiso saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maddux Wagner went 6-for-11 to rack up 17 points. The dominant performance gave Wagner a new career-high in points. Kj Avery was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Chesterton pushed their record up to 14-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points over those games. As for Valparaiso, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-14.
Chesterton has already played their next matchup, a 79-17 win against Whiting on the 22nd. As for Valparaiso, they will take on Hammond Central at 7:00 p.m. on February 28th.
