Maryna Valenzuela made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hobbs got a massive performance out of Angel Jimenez, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and one run. Those five hits gave Jimenez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Edyth Chavez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Hobbs hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Roswell 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Cavemen/Cavegirls' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Not much got past Aubrey Hernandez, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Roswell off the board.
On the hitting side, Carlsbad secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Kalion Fuentes, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Carlsbad pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hobbs, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.
Hobbs couldn't quite get it done against Carlsbad in their previous meeting last Monday as they fell 10-5. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
