The Woodmore Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 48-26 walloping at the hands of Gibsonburg. While losing is never fun, Woodmore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 354th, while Gibsonburg is ranked 94th).
Gibsonburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sophia Paul out in front who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Paul scored 15 or more points. Elly Evarts was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Woodmore's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Gibsonburg, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-1.
Woodmore's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Hopewell-Loudon at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Hopewell-Loudon is coming into the matchup with three straight wins on the road, so Woodmore is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Gibsonburg is on the road again on Thursday and plays Danbury at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Danbury is on a three-game streak of home wins, Gibsonburg a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
