The Northern Valley Huskies will be home for the holidays to greet the Arapahoe Warriors on Tuesday. Hopefully Northern Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday.
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Northern Valley had to settle for a 35-33 defeat against Thunder Ridge. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Northern Valley has scored all season.
Despite their defeat, Northern Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Delaney Sides, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Austyn Cox, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds.
Even though Arapahoe has not done well against Southwest recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Arapahoe made off with a 36-35 victory over Southwest.
Arapahoe can attribute much of their success to Clara Hilker, who scored seven points, and Berkley Warner, who scored 19 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Warner has scored at least 25% of Arapahoe's points.
Northern Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Arapahoe, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Northern Valley have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. However, it's not like Arapahoe struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 threes per game. Given Northern Valley's sizeable advantage in that area, Arapahoe will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northern Valley suffered a grim 50-28 defeat to Arapahoe in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Will Northern Valley have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
