The Central Rockets will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Wauconda Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central has four straight victories, Wauconda has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Barrington on Friday as Central made off with a 12-4 win. With that victory, the Rockets brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Chase Powrozek made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Powrozek was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other pitching news, Nico Sherry looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Zane Pollack was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-5. That run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bennek Braden, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Wauconda suffered their biggest defeat since May 16, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Elizabethton, falling 15-3.
Ryan Fostiak made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Central pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.0 runs this season. As for Wauconda, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Wauconda struggles in that department as they've averaged .395. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
