The Burbank Titans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They rang in the new year with a 57-49 victory over Kennedy. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, as Burbank did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burbank to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Robinson, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedric Sydnor, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Kennedy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Aharon Young, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds, and Q. Thorpe who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Durrell Gooding, who scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Burbank is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Kennedy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.
Burbank will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against McClatchy at 7:30 p.m. Kennedy and Monterey Trail will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Monterey Trail has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,059 points over their last 14 games.
