The Pineapple Cove Classical Academy Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They suffered a rough 62-41 defeat at the hands of Odyssey Charter School. The game was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Pineapple Cove Classical Academy struggled afterwards.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Barna, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Anthony Bender, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Odyssey Charter School racked up 13 assists.
Odyssey Charter School was led to victory by Jevenson Antoine and Malik Brown. Antoine dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Brown dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Brown also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamale Long, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy bumped their record down to 3-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Odyssey Charter School, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy will be playing at home against Naples Classical at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Naples Classical knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Pineapple Cove Classical Academy likes a good challenge. Odyssey Charter School will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Master's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Master's Academy is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
