Basketball Recap: Gibbs Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mitchell

Gibbs scored the most points they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Mitchell Mustangs by a score of 59-57. While losing is never fun, the Gladiators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 157th).

Mitchell was led to victory by Priya Jacob and Kaylana Little. Jacob dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards, while Little went 6 of 15 on her way to 19 points along with six steals and five boards. That's the most points Jacob has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carys Thuma, who posted six points and four steals.

Gibbs has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Mitchell, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Gibbs didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-22 win against Osceola on the 7th. As for Mitchell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 67-34 victory against Winthrop College Prep Academy on the 7th.
