The section championships are over, and everyone is still trying to catch their breath, particularly those who battled to the wire. The CIF Northern California playoffs start this week with the prestigious Open Division games on Friday.

League: Tri-County Rock
Coach: Bill Mellis
Update: The Pride has lost only to Bishop Gorman, which just won its seventh successive Nevada state championship. The winning streak is 22, including a North Coast Section championship three-peat in beating Campolindo 67-53. Salesian is the No. 1 seed in the NorCal Open field and plays Folsom first. An unsung Pride star:
Te'Jon Sawyer. Coach Mellis is a 500-game winner.
2. (2) Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland), 25-5Section: North Coast
League: West Alameda Foothill
Coach: Lou Richie
Update: The storied Dragons are on a 21-game winning streak and won their 18th North Coast Section championship, downing Las Lomas 65-58. Guards
Elijah Hardy and
Naseem Gaskin make for a terrific duo for the No. 2 seed in the NorCal Open. The opener is against Capital Christian.
3. (4) Modesto Christian (Modesto), 28-3Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Modesto Metro
Coach: Brice Fantazia
Update: The Crusaders have won 15 consecutive, including a thrilling 60-56 win over Sheldon to win the program's 19th Sac-Joaquin Section championship.
Junior Ballard had the late 3-pointer against Sheldon, and
Tyler Williams also played big. Seeded third in the NorCal Open, MC starts with Bellarmine.
4. (3) Sheldon (Sacramento), 26-5Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Delta
Coach: Joey Rollings
Update: The Huskies had their 19-game winning streak halted in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I finals to Modesto Christian despite 24 points from
Dale Currie. As the NorCal Open No. 4 seed, Sheldon starts against Memorial of Fresno.
5. (NR) San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno,), 25-6Section: Central
League: County/Metro
Coach: Brad Roznovsky
Update: Because Memorial was placed into the NorCal Open Division as the 5-seed, we will rank them here (usually, the Fresno and Central Section teams are placed in the SoCal playoff brackets). Memorial is led by dynamic 6-foot-6 sophomore guard
Jalen Green, averaging 28.3 points. Memorial has been top ranked in the Central section all season, and it split with Modesto Christian.
6. (7) Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose), 24-3Section: Central Coast
League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Patrick Schneider
Update: The Bells won their first Central Coast Section Open Division title. They beat three WCAL rivals, including Mitty 66-58 in the finals, behind star
Jake Wojcik's 24 points. Bellarmine is the No. 6 seed in the NorCal Open field and starts at Modesto Christian.
7. (5) Capital Christian (Sacramento), 22-8Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Golden Empire

Update: Seeded seventh in the NorCal Open field, the Cougars start at No. 2 O'Dowd. The guard combo
Zachary Chappell and
Rick Barros will have to play their best game to keep the season alive, and they're fully capable. Capital Christian lost to Modesto Christian in the section semifinals.
8. (6) Folsom, 25-5Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Sierra Foothill
Coach: Mike Wall
Update: The Bulldogs lost in overtime to Sheldon in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinal and is seeded eighth in the NorCal Open field, thus a game at top-ranked Salesian. Folsom beat Gorman of Las Vegas which handed Salesian its lone loss.
9. (13) Heritage (Brentwood), 28-2Section: North Coast
League: Bay Valley
Coach: Pat Cruickshank
Update: The winning streak is 16 for the Patriots, who won the North Coast Section Division I title and earned the top seed in the NorCal Division I field. Heritage opens against Bullard of Fresno.
10. (10) Las Lomas (Walnut Creek), 27-3Section: North Coast
League: Diablo Foothill
Coach: Brian Dietschy
Update: The Knights lost to O'Dowd in a competitive North Coast Section Division II final and then earned the No. 2 seed in the NorCal Division I field, opening against Franklin of Elk Grove.
11. (15) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose), 11-16Section: Central Coast
League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Tim Kennedy
Update: Despite the losing record, the Monarchs are, as coach Kennedy said, "a seedings nightmare." This team has come on strong, and after falling to rival Bellarmine in the Central Coast Section Open Division finals earned a No. 3 seed in the NorCal Division I field, drawing storied Jesuit.
12. (11) Clayton Valley Charter (Concord), 26-3Section: North Coast
League: Diablo Foothill
Coach: Eric Bamberger
Update: The top seed in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs lost to Heritage in the finals and gained the No. 3 seed in the NorCal Division I field. CVC will open against Menlo. Clayton Valley Charter started the season 18-0.
13. (8) Saint Francis (Mountain View), 19-7Section: Central Coast
League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Mike Motil
Update: The Lancers placed second to Bellarmine in the WCAL and fell to the Bells in the Central Coast Section Open Division semifinals. As the No. 5 seed in the NorCal Division I field, Saint Francis opens against No. 12 Central of Fresno.
14. (9) Palo Alto, 23-3Section: Central Coast
League: DeAnza
Coach: Peter Diepenbrock
Update: The 21-game winning streak came to an end against Mitty in the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs, though new life is here. As the No. 8 seed in the NorCal Division I field, Palo Alto plays storied De La Salle in an opener.
15. (14) Berkeley, (23-6)Section: North Coast
League: West Alameda Foothill
Coach: Ralph Fields
Update: The Yellowjackets lost to Clayton Valley Charter 76-69 in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs after edging De La Salle 54-51. As the No. 6 seed in the NorCal Division I field, Berkeley will play No. 11 St. Ignatius of San Francisco in an opener. Two losses for Berkeley this season were to NorCal No. 2 O'Dowd.
16. (12) Dublin, 25-5Section: North Coast
League: East Bay
Coach: Tom Costello
Update: The Gaels lost 100-98 in double overtime to Heritage in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs in as good a game as many have seen in years. Dublin is a great No. 7 darkhorse in the NorCal Division I field and open against Serra of San Mateo.
17. (18) St. Ignatius (San Francisco), 17-9Section: Central Coast
League: West Catholic Athletic
Coach: Rob Marcaletti
Update: The Wildcats lost to Belarmine and Palo Alto, both ranked higher, in the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs and gained a shot against Berkeley in a NorCal Division I opener.
18. (18) Pleasant Valley (Chico), 27-2Section: Northern
League: Eastern
Coach: Tim Keating
Update: The winning streak is 14 for the Vikings, who beat Foothill to win the Northern Section Division III title 66-50. PV earned the No. 2 seed in the NorCal Division III field and start with Drake.
19. St. Mary's (Stockton), 23-8Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Tri-City
Coach: Ken Green
Update: After beating Grant for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship, coach Green's third, the Rams gained the No. 2 seed in the NorCal Division II field. They open against No. 15 Sunnyside.
20. (20) Central Catholic (Modesto), 28-2Section: Sac-Joaquin
League: Valley Oak
Coach: Mike Wilson
Update: The winning streak is 19 after the Raiders beat Beyer of Modesto to win the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV title. They got moved into the NorCal Division III field as a No. 4 seed and open against Monterey.
