Snowflake has gone 7-1 against Round Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Snowflake Lobos will head out to challenge the Round Valley Elks at 11:00 a.m. Round Valley took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Snowflake, who comes in off a win.
On Thursday, Snowflake got the win against St. Johns by a conclusive 10-1. The victory continues a trend for the Lobos in their matchups with the Redskins: they've now won five in a row.
Kashlynn Cantrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Graycee Skousen was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Taya Schneider was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Snowflake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Johns only posted a batting average of .043.
Meanwhile, Round Valley came up short against Morenci on Wednesday, falling 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Elks have suffered against the Wildcats since March 5, 2020.
Ruth Wiltbank was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kelci Walker, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Snowflake's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15.2 runs. As for Round Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Snowflake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .416. However, it's not like Round Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Snowflake's way against Round Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Snowflake made off with a 25-13 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Snowflake since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
