Spoto extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-7. They came up short against the Robinson Knights, falling 16-1. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 4-0 to the Knights when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Spoto saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braylen Byrd, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double was Byrd's first of the season.
As for Robinson, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Robinson's side, Andrew Zimmerman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Zimmerman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Robinson is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Zimmerman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Lincoln DeGroot looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Ben Bryan was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Cason Cooper, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Looking ahead, Spoto will be playing at home against Plant City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Robinson, they are taking a road trip to face off against Alonso at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ravens have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
