The Rickover Naval Seadragons are taking a road trip to take on the Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Rickover Naval turned things around against Schurz on Tuesday. They blew past the Bulldogs 23-5.
Kayla Mateo was incredible, firing off three home runs, nine RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Juliana Senorski, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Rickover Naval always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .806. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 22-13 margin over Chicago Washington.
Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park let Litzie Bucio and Cassandra Medrano run wild. Bucio got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Medrano got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Alyssa Lopez was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park's record now sits at 14-5-1. As for Rickover Naval, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rickover Naval hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
