The Sam Houston Texans suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a tough 81-60 loss at the hands of Haltom. While losing is never fun, Sam Houston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 687th, while Haltom is ranked 150th).
Sam Houston lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rylan Austin, who scored 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Terry Brock, who scored 14 points.
Haltom had a senior duo take command as Kuol Atak scored 28 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks and Da'Aquarius Barnes scored 26 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Atak has scored at least a third of Haltom's points. Another player making a difference was Ashton Moore, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Sam Houston has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season. As for Haltom, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-7.
Sam Houston will head out on the road to face off against Grand Prairie at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Haltom, they will be playing at home against South Grand Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in South Grand Prairie's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
