Baseball Recap: Girard Finds Playoff Glory Versus Franklin

Girard had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Franklin Knights on Tuesday. Considering the Yellowjackets have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Zach Kelley made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Kelley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Kalicky, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Girard and bumps their season record up to 13-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Franklin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

Coming up, Girard will face off against Titusville at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rockets have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. Franklin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
