The Somonauk Bobcats will take on the Serena Huskers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Somonauk is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Somonauk had just enough and edged out Plano 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
Kaydence Eade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits.
At the plate, Kennedy Barshinger was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brooke Bahrey, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Serena gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Ashton-Franklin Center 13-2. The Huskers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by ten runs or more this season.
Cassie Walsh made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, RayElle Brennan was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Brynley Glade was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.
Serena hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashton-Franklin Center struck out 11 times.
Somonauk pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Serena, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Both Somonauk and Serena just can't seem to miss. The Bobcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Serena struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Somonauk couldn't quite get it done against Serena in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 13-8. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
