Softball Recap: Simsboro Has No Trouble Against Bastrop

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Simsboro brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They put the hurt on the Bastrop Rams with a sharp 12-2 win on Monday. Considering the Tigers have won 12 contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kennady King and Kailee Hamilton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, King tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Hamilton pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, King scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Hamilton scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases King has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacoya Lewis, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Talashia Mangham, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Simsboro hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in six consecutive games.

The victory snapped Simsboro's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-9 record. As for Bastrop, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

Coming up, Simsboro will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Red River at 4:30 p.m. As for Bastrop, they will head out to challenge Union Parish at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Parish has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.56 runs per game on average), something Bastrop will no doubt try to take advantage of.
