The Washington-Wilkes Tigers and the Johnson County Trojans squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Washington-Wilkes Tigers had to settle for second. Washington-Wilkes took a 36-22 bruising from Johnson County. Washington-Wilkes has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Washington-Wilkes had strong showings from Shariq Meadows, who picked up 103 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Andrew Meech, who threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Washington-Wilkes bumped their record down to 6-5 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Greene County and 9-2 Elbert County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.3% over those games). As for Johnson County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Washington-Wilkes does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Johnson County will be playing in front of their home fans against Manchester at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
