Basketball Recap: Holmes Takes a Loss

Holmes was the 65-45 winner over O'Connor when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Holmes Huskies took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the O'Connor Panthers on Saturday. While the Huskies didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 17-12 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Holmes lost, don't look at Domonique Edwards. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Edwards a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Theresa Caravlho, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Holmes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as O'Connor only pulled down nine offensive boards.

Leading O'Connor to victory were Casey Chavez and Jules Roberts. Chavez dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards, while Roberts went 8 of 14 on her way to 24 points. Chavez's morning made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Giuliana Maldonado, who had seven points and seven rebounds.

Holmes has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for O'Connor, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12.

Holmes didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-33 defeat against Marshall on the 31st. As for O'Connor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-20 win against Stevens on the 31st.
