The Sissonville Indians will face off against the Independence Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Sissonville has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sissonville will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Lincoln on Saturday. The Indians came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 14-11.
Sissonville got a massive performance out of Lydia Ellis, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Ellis has posted since back in April of 2024. Makynli Berrier was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Sissonville lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Independence faced Hoover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Patriots came up short against the Huskies, falling 8-0. The Patriots have struggled against the Huskies recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Sissonville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-11. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sissonville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've averaged .389. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sissonville skirted past Independence 2-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
