The Manzano Monarchs will head out on the road to square off against the Valley Vikings at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Manzano is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Manzano took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Del Norte by a score of 10-7. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Monarchs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Destiny Moore made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Moore was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Shania Aragon was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Luna Bodella Ayala was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Valley posted their closest victory since April 17, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 win over Rio Grande. Considering the Vikings' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Manzano's record now sits at 3-7. As for Valley, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
