Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Fremont's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Fremont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against the Layton Lancers by a score of 15-10. With that victory, the Silverwolves brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Jessica Broadbent and Cara Henrie did most of the damage at the plate: Broadbent went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one triple, while Henrie went 4-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Henrie has posted since back in April. Brooklyn Himelright was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Fremont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Layton only posted a batting average of .286.

Fremont has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Layton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-20.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fremont will face off against Riverton at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Riverton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Fremont's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Layton, they will challenge Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Phoenix have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
