The Windham Eagles will take on the Thornton Academy Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Windham is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
On Friday, Windham came up short against Deering and fell 3-1. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rams 25-17 in the first set.
Windham started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-20, 25-17, 26-24.
Lauren Neal 15/46 put forth a good effort for the losing side as she had 11 digs. Belle Pinto also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Meanwhile, Thornton Academy faced Scarborough in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Trojans fell just short of the Red Storm by a score of 3-2. The Trojans have struggled against the Red Storm recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Thornton Academy took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-15, 15-13.
Windham's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Thornton Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Windham has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Thornton Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 14 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
