They escaped with a win on Thursday against Calvary Christian by the margin of a single free throw, 48-47. The win was just what Southland Academy needed coming off of a 62-40 defeat in their prior matchup.
Despite the defeat, Calvary Christian saw an underclassman step up: Makayla Elizabeth reed scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Miller, who scored 11 points.
Southland Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Calvary Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
Southland Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Valwood at 6:15 p.m. on January 5th. Calvary Christian is on the road again on January 5th and play against Shaw at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Shaw is ranked 197th, while Calvary Christian is ranked 187th).
