Zion Christian Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Christian Community on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. Caleb Rutledge was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Carson Boylan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Jack Handley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Zion Christian Academy's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Christian Community, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
