Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Sunnyside's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Sunnyside won the last time they faced Rio Rico and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 8-0 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

DOMINIC THOMPSON looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sunnyside got a massive performance out of EMRICK THOMPSON, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI THOMPSON has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was MICHEL MUNIZ, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run.

Sunnyside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Sunnyside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Rio Rico, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunnyside will head out to challenge Walden Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rio Rico, they will venture away from home to square off against Salpointe Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
