South Johnston is a perfect 10-0 against Smithfield-Selma since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Johnston has 14 straight victories, Smithfield-Selma has 27 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, South Johnston made easy work of Southern Wayne and carried off a 16-1 win. Considering the Trojans have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Randi Deese was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, South Johnston let Reese Penny and Olivia Crumpler run wild. Penny got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Crumpler went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Crumpler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Loryn Riddick, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
South Johnston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma lost 19-1 to Hunt last Thursday.
South Johnston's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.
South Johnston took their victory against Smithfield-Selma in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 20-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
