Peninsula is 1-6 against South since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Panthers will square off against the Spartans at 3:30 p.m. Peninsula is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.
Peninsula fell victim to El Camino Real and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Royals, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, South earned a 7-4 victory over Wiseburn- Da Vinci on Tuesday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Lilah Cortes looked comfortable as she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Juju Tymick was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Brynn Stallings also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Peninsula's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for South, their record now sits at 8-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Peninsula hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Peninsula came out on top in a nail-biter against South in their previous matchup back in February of 2025, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
