The Clinton Gaels will head out on the road to face off against the Uxbridge Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Clinton walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Rockland 49-6 on the road. Clinton pushed the score to 42-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Rockland had no chance of recovering from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clinton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Axel Ramos, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Ramos has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Connor Cox and his 105 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Clinton's win.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Clinton's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Cox and Ethan Frisch who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Uxbridge put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Tyngsborough as Uxbridge made off with a 33-7 victory. Given Uxbridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Tyngsborough is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The win makes it two in a row for Clinton and bumps their season record up to 6-4. As for Uxbridge, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Clinton came up short against Uxbridge when the teams last played back in November of 2018, falling 27-16. Can Clinton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
