NEPSAC Freelance recap October 29, 2013
Northfield Mount Hermon moved up to 65 from 255 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in NEPSAC Freelance. The Hoggers were able to move up by falling to Choate Rosemary Hall 59-0.
Hackley was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Putnam Valley. The Hornets came in at 9 in the state poll after placing at number 45 last week.
Phillips Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ian Maag threw for 174 and 2 touchdowns and Brandon Michel had 85 yards receiving. On the ground Ryder Stone contributed 106 yards. Jake Howell helped Phillips Academy's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 31 yards.
Maag put up the best numbers through the air as the Big Blues topped Deerfield Academy. Maag's favorite target this week was Michel, who caught 6 passes for 85 yards.
Phillips Academy's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Big Blues feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Maag has thrown for 770 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Howell has 15 catches for 310 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Loomis Chaffee takes on the Wild Boars. At the moment, Loomis Chaffee is in fourth, while Choate Rosemary Hall is in sixth.
Phillips Exeter Academy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cushing Academy, 20-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Lions.
