The Fairfield Mules were the 54-25 winner over North Clay/Clay City when they last played one another back in November of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Fairfield took a 42-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Clay/Clay City on Tuesday. Fairfield has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
North Clay/Clay City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Miah Ballard, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Matia Price was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Fairfield has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for North Clay/Clay City, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Fairfield is on the road again on Friday and play against Gibson Southern at 10:30 a.m. on December 22nd. Gibson Southern knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 games -- so hopefully Fairfield likes a good challenge. North Clay/Clay City will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Flora at 6:15 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
